KRISTINE & ROBERT. MT WOODSON CASTLE WEDDING

“And now I know why they invented words for love,
why they had to: It's the only thing that can come
close to describing what I feel in that moment,
the baffling mixture of pain and pleasure and fear and joy,
all running sharply through me at once.”
― Lauren Oliver

It’s not very often that my wife and I can just sit with the guests and mingle with them like they were old friends. But we did just that at Kristine and Robert’s wedding. Seeing past clients and friends inviting you to their table to take a break and chit-chat is always refreshing. To be treated like family rather than vendors is always a plus in my book. But as much as we just wanted to just mingle with everyone, we still had a job to do. Well I don’t want to say “job”, rather, we have this beautiful wedding to cover. Mt Woodson Castle, located in sunny San Diego, is indeed a beautiful place. The castle itself, which was inspired by French, Dutch, Spanish, and Medieval architect styles, has an actual working windmill that pumped water from the springs to redwood storage tanks. And thanks to the amazing backdrop of oak trees blanketing the surrounding area, we were able to take cover from the sweltering heat of the summer sun during the bride and groom portraits.

But besides capturing the beauty of the location, it was being able to experience the intimacy during Kristine and Robert’s wedding that made it truly memorable. I could go on and on about how I could tell that the people who attended the wedding were people that were close to their hearts. People who loved them dearly and actually wanted to see the couple get married. But I think the highlight for me was how Kristine made sure to have her dad be part of her wedding in every way by having his photo as part of her bouquet . It was truly heart-warming. I say this only because I had the pleasure of meeting her dad for her brother’s wedding that we also documented two years ago. At that time I remember that I was in awe as this man radiated youthful energy, dancing the night away with the exuberance of a twenty one year old during the reception. But sadly he passed away a couple of months after the wedding. But I’m sure he was proud and in awe of how beautiful she looked in her wedding dress. There’s an old adage which goes: “A father hold his daughter’s hand for a short while, but he holds her heart forever.” At that moment, it couldn’t be further from the truth. Enjoy the photos!

“Anyone who falls in love is searching for the missing pieces of themselves. So anyone who's in love gets sad when they think of their lover. It's like stepping back inside a room you have fond memories of, one you haven't seen in a long time.” ― Murakami, Haruki
